High-precision 3D-glass components for diagnostics
We are happy to announce that the joint project between SCHOTT Technical Glass Solutions GmbH, LensTec Jena GmbH and the Fraunhofer Insitute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF is receiving support from the European Regional Development Fund.
The joint project between SCHOTT Technical Glass Solutions GmbH, LensTec Jena GmbH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering IOF addresses the research of microfluidic and opto-mechanical components made of glass with the focus on fluidic chips and spectrometer optics with defined structured surfaces. The development combines a processing technology for glass and glass ceramics specially adapted to the requirements of an interlayer-free joining technique. As a further process, three-dimensional glass components with cavities are to be developed using an additive laser melting process (SLM). The use of digital data for the production of complex vitreous bodies is thus fundamentally investigated. The aim is to develop polymer-free components with long-term stability that can be used under harsh environmental conditions for tailor-made system solutions in innovative fields of application. The research of a process chain for brittle hard materials includes the challenges of manufacturing and application design, material selection, processing and joining technology up to the characterization under the aspects of a later industrial and efficient production of components. The fundamentals address an analysis of the interfaces as a function of the production or Combination of manufacturing processes, the development of different joining technologies, the three-dimensional assembly of glass bodies and the validation of components for the volume market (fluidic chip) as well as for high-performance optics in the limited quantity range (spectrometer, quantum optics).
